The rules
Five tiers, from a warning to a permanent ban, and what lands where.
Core rules
Everything below comes back to these.
- Be kind. CloveSMP is a cozy server. Anything that makes someone dread logging in breaks the rules, whether it's listed here or not.
- “Leave me alone” ends it. Once someone says it, anywhere, carrying on is harassment, whatever you meant by it.
- If it isn't yours, leave it. Claimed or not, other people's builds, chests and things are theirs.
- Report, don't retaliate. Use /report or tell staff in Discord. Getting even turns one problem into two.
- Staff decisions stand. Staff have the final say in the moment. If you think one was wrong, appeal in Discord, calmly and once.
How punishments work
Every rule sits in one of five tiers. The tier decides what happens, so the outcome never depends on which staff member happens to be online.
- Every punishment is logged, so the next staff member sees the full history.
- Breaking rules again moves you up the ladder. A pattern across several reports moves you up faster than a single one.
- While a report is looked into, staff may mute or separate people. That isn’t a punishment yet, and they’ll say so.
- Something that clearly breaks the spirit of the rules can be punished even if it isn’t listed.
Tier 1Minor chat offences
Small things that make chat worse for everyone. It starts with a warning and grows if it keeps happening.
- First timeA logged warning
- Again1 hour mute
- After that24 hour mute
| Caps and symbols | Whole messages in capitals, or long runs of emoji and symbols. |
|---|---|
| English in public chat | Keep public chat in English so everyone, staff included, can follow it. Any language is fine in /msg. |
| Being snide | Rude remarks in passing. Disagree all you like, just without being cruel. |
Tier 2General misconduct
Behaviour that makes the server feel unwelcoming or unsafe. These skip the warning.
- First time24 hour mute or ban
- Again7 day ban
- After thatMoves up to tier 4
| Ignoring “leave me alone” | Carrying on after someone has asked you to stop, even once. |
|---|---|
| Sexual or obscene chat | Anything sexual or crude, in chat, on signs or in books. |
| Sly remarks | Backhanded comments, “jokes” or stereotypes about someone's race, sexuality, gender, religion or background. Keep it up and it counts as racism and discrimination, tier 5. |
| Religion and politics | They split a room fast. Keep them out of public chat. |
| Prying | Asking anyone for their real name, age, location, photos or socials. |
| Pushing people elsewhere | Pressuring someone onto voice chat, into DMs or onto another app. |
| Spam | Repeating yourself, posting nonsense or flooding chat with walls of text. |
| Dodging the filter | Creative spelling, spacing or symbols to get a blocked word through. |
| Fake announcements | Messages dressed up as server alerts or staff messages to fool people. |
| Impersonation | Passing yourself off as staff, another player or a creator, /nick included. |
| Offensive names and skins | Staff will ask you to change it first. Refusing is the offence. Hateful ones are tier 5. |
Tier 3Gameplay violations
Things that spoil someone else's game, or the fairness of it. Any damage is rolled back too.
- First time24 hour ban, damage rolled back
- Again7 day ban
- After thatMoves up to tier 4
| Small griefing | Breaking, changing or taking anything that isn't yours, claimed or not. |
|---|---|
| Crowding a neighbour | Ask before building right up against someone's claim. |
| Boxing someone in | Building around someone's claim or base to trap them or cut them off. |
| Claiming structures you won't use | Leave villages, temples and other structures open for everyone to explore unless you're actually building there. |
| Unwanted PvP | Attacking someone who isn't fighting back. If they run, let them go. |
| Killing for loot | Killing someone to take their things is just theft. |
| Traps and lures | Tricking someone into a trap, a fight or a teleport to kill or troll them. |
| Inventory flooding | Filling someone's inventory with junk to wind them up. |
| Giving away crate items | Sell crate rewards rather than handing them out free, so they keep their value for everyone. |
| Offensive builds | Anything obscene or made to upset people. Hateful builds are tier 5. |
| AFK farming | Farms or tricks that keep earning while you're away from the keyboard. |
| Using bugs | Exploiting a bug, or glitching into places you shouldn't reach. Report it instead and we'd rather reward you. |
| Pressured trades | Pushing someone into a trade, or taking payment on a promise you don't keep. |
Tier 4Serious offences
Harm that is deliberate or keeps happening. Expect a long ban, and a permanent one if it happens again.
- First time7 to 30 day ban
- AgainPermanent ban
| Harassment | Targeting, following, pestering or picking on someone, including about how they look. Picking on who they are is tier 5. |
|---|---|
| E-dating | CloveSMP is for making friends. Using it to look for a partner isn't allowed. Anything involving a minor is tier 5. |
| Spawn-camping and repeat-killing | Killing the same player again after they've tried to leave you alone. |
| Major griefing or stealing | Serious damage to someone's build, or raiding their chests. |
| Scamming | Taking someone's items or Petals through a fake deal or a misleading offer. |
| Cheating | Cheat clients, X-ray, autoclickers, macros, or any mod that gives you an unfair advantage. Not sure about a mod? Ask staff first. |
| Lagging the server on purpose | Building or running anything meant to lag or slow the server. |
| Alt accounts | A second account to stack rewards or get around a block. |
| Toxicity | Constantly testing the limits. Repeated tier 1 to 3 offences end up here. |
Tier 5Permanent ban
Zero tolerance. No warning, no second chance, no negotiation, and any staff member can act on their own. Calling it a joke doesn't change the tier.
- Any timePermanent ban, straight away
| Racism and discrimination | Open racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, ableism, or hate toward someone's religion or background. Slurs count even once, even as a joke, in quotes or “not aimed at anyone”. So do repeated sly remarks (tier 2). |
|---|---|
| Threats | Threatening anyone with harm, in game or out, DDoS and doxxing threats included. |
| Predatory behaviour | Anything toward a minor that is sexual, grooming, or digging for personal details. |
| Sexual harassment | Sexual remarks or advances aimed at another player. |
| Doxxing | Sharing anyone's real name, location, photos, socials or other personal information. |
| Encouraging self-harm | Ever, in any form, even as a joke. |
| Advertising | Posting another server's address or invite, or recruiting players away. Naming another server in conversation is fine; promoting one isn't. |
| Harmful links | IP grabbers, malware, shock content or anything else meant to hurt people. |
| Duping and crash exploits | Duplicating items, or using an exploit that crashes or damages the server. Report it instead. |
| Ban evasion | Coming back on another account while banned. |
Good to know
- PvP is opt-in. Fights between two players who both turned it on are fine. How PvP works.
- Your land is safe. Claims never expire and nothing is taken back, even if you take a long break.
- Chat and messages are logged. That’s how reports get resolved. What is logged.
- Not knowing a rule isn’t an excuse. Rules can change; changes are announced in Discord.
- Think a decision was wrong? Appeal it, calmly and once.
/report in game. It goes to staff only, and the person you report never sees it. More about getting help.
